Key Architectural Outcomes
  • Full elimination of vendor cloud lock-in: Lights, sensors, and thermostats operate locally even if the internet goes down.
  • Self-healing Thread mesh networking eliminates range bottlenecks in multi-room offices and commercial spaces.
  • Energy monitoring integrations providing real-time circuit-level kilowatt telemetry.
  • Isolated IoT VLAN prevents consumer smart devices from ever communicating with enterprise computing networks.

1. Purpose & Scope

This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) outlines the commissioning and operational requirements for deploying commercial facility automation across office suites, healthcare clinics, and agricultural facilities. All installed devices must communicate via local IP standards (Matter over Thread or Matter over Wi-Fi) with zero cloud vendor dependencies. If external internet service is interrupted, all automation rules, climate schedules, and security sensors must continue operating flawlessly.

3. Commissioning Workflow (Step-by-Step)

1. Step 1: Network Preparation * Isolate the smart facility subnet onto VLAN 40 (Smart-Facility). * Enable mDNS (Multicast DNS) reflection between the controller subnet and the IoT subnet. * Disable IPv6 firewall packet blocking for link-local traffic on the Thread bridge. 2. Step 2: Border Router Provisioning * Connect the primary Thread Border Router via Cat6 Ethernet (avoid Wi-Fi uplinks for core controllers). * Confirm Thread dataset generation and save cryptographic network key in the secure password repository. 3. Step 3: End-Device Commissioning * Onboard devices using the official commissioning QR code directly through the local controller application. * Disallow any vendor-specific third-party mobile applications during initial setup to prevent mandatory cloud registration.
